About the NPSA
Helping survivors since 1984
Who is Affected:
More than 440,000 polio survivors in the United States are at risk for developing symptoms of post-polio syndrome (PPS).
We help individuals dealing with post-polio syndrome, their family and friends and the medical support community.
We work to develop awareness of PPS issues and strategies to optimize function and well-being.
How NPSA Can Help:
We educate the community by providing articles, research reports and access to informative programs presented by recognized polio experts and referrals to inspirational books authored by survivors and health care providers.
We offer fellowship and support at our monthly group meetings.
We keep members in touch and inform the community through the "Gleanings" monthly newsletter.
We host guest speakers on topics such as:
- Adaptive equipment to optimize mobility and accessibilit
- Exercise for people with limited mobility
- Spirituality
- Living with PPS
Our meetings allow members to share their experiences and learn ways to proactively and holistically care for themselves.
